I’ve not been as diligent about writing s I need to be. I feel like I’m going through the motions, but not getting a whole lot done since I wrapped up my first draft of the short story collection. There’s still a lot to do with it. I just can’t seem to find the motivation to get into my edits. And I need to. Like six weeks ago!
On October 19, I was part of the inaugural Front Porch Tales in Lebanon, VA, a storytelling and book vending opportunity. I didn’t read or tell stories this year, but I sold some books and met some great people. I had a grand time and hope to be invited to do it all again next year. Jerry Sword organized it and did a bang-up job! Hats off to everyone who worked so hard to make it a success!
I’m still going to the Salvation South events. They’re always good. I just don’t feel like I have much energy. I walk away with more than I went into them with, which is good, and I’d like to start going to the poetry events, too, once I find a little more energy and get caught up on my short story revisions.
November is the month for Diane Zinna’s Fall Magic Circle, which I’ve really looked forward to. I logged on each morning from Chicago last week, but doctor’s appointments and other things have kept me from logging on each day this week. I feel really disconnected from the activities since I’ll have to miss a whole week. It’s really frustrating, but there is not much I can do about the appointments.
Saturday, November 9, marked the first of four meetings I’ll get to do with Connie Green as the facilitator of a Chapbook Group. We will meet the second Saturdays of February, May, and August, as well. We wrote five poems on Saturday. Our assignments until we meet again include reading 3-5 poems per day; studying one object in detail and writing about it daily; and writing one poem to send out to our accountability partner every Monday. My accountability partner is Sue Weaver Dunlap, so I think I’m pretty lucky. She and I work together on the Tennessee Mountain Writers Board for Special Events Committee. So I know her as a person and am excited to get to know her work better. There are ten of us in the group. It’s a fine mix of ladies and I can’t wait to see what we produce in the months ahead. I’d love to have enough materials to be able to publish a chapbook somewhere in 2025 or 2026.
I’m up to 90 rejections, 29 acceptances, 2 withdrawals, and 17 pieces still out. I doubt I will get to 100 rejections this year, just because it’s mid-November and even rejections take a few weeks. But I shall keep trying. Yes, I shall keep submitting and see how close I can get to 100 rejections by year’s end. No matter where I end up, it has been a good run. It has been a fabulously busy year. (Maybe that’s why I have no energy left?!?! Lol!) I know I have a rather big acceptance coming in the next few weeks, but I’m not allowed to announce it until after the beginning of December. Suffice it to say, I’m excited and exhilarated by it, and it has been a year in the making! Keep your eyes wide open for more about that in next month’s blogs!
