My Big Sister in my Sorority (Pi Sigma Kappa, Purple and Proud), Lynne, Bishop, is having a birthday this week. Last year, we spent opening weekend of the Hard Rock Café in Bristol, VA, at the hotel and casino. We had so much fun, we decided it should become an annual event.

This year, we added a concert into the mix. Jo Dee Messina was there on Saturday night. Turns out, she’s one of Lynne’s favorite artists. So we went and had a fabulous time. She sounded amazing! She gave us all the hits and sneak peeks of songs from her forthcoming album. It’s got great stuff on it and should be out early next year, so keep your eyes open for it.

After that, we went to the Hard Rock Café to eat. There was an 80s cover band there. Now, I’m typically not into cover bands. I’m blessed to have seen “the real thing” so often, I don’t want to see someone cover those songs. But I was willing to give this one a chance because they come to the Hard Rock every few months. So I figured they must be pretty good. Oh. My. Goodness. It was so painful! (Not as painful as the tooth pain I’ve been experiencing, but painful, nonetheless!) George Michael and Michael Jackson are still rolling in their graves, I’m pretty certain. As a Bon Jovi fan, I’m still deeply wounded over what they did to “Living on a Prayer.” I’ll leave it there. I’m not mentioning the name of the band out of respect. Maybe it was an off-night. But – I won’t be going back for more.

I didn’t win much at all over the course of the weekend. Which didn’t surprise me, really. The Arcade – that’s what Russ and I call the casino – have taken out several of the games I felt like were “my” games. I like one of the new ones “Dash for Cash,” but I’m still in mourning for the ones I’ve lost. Lynne won some – which was great. Were eight of us big winners? No. Were either of us big losers? No. Did both of us have fun? Absolutely!

We also had a Saturday morning excursion to Blackbird Bakery. We love Blackbird Bakery!

Happy birthday, Lynne! Until next year… (And I’ll start saving money now, lol!)
